The Non-stick Pan Incident

March 2001

A certain contributor to alt.polyamory mentioned an ex-partner who had ruined her non-stick pans using steel wool. This led me to post the following anecdote.

This reminds me of an episode some years ago. I and a partner went on a camping trip, and said partner somehow wound up doing the bulk of the post-trip unpacking-and-cleanup. And the following conversation ensued as a consequence:

Partner: There we are, I've got everything nicely cleaned up. I had particular difficulty with this big cooking pot of yours since it was covered with icky black stuff. But I spent lots of extra time working on it and got all the black stuff off, because I thought you'd appreciate it if I saved you the trouble. See? It's all nice and shiny now!

Me: [speechless]

I explained about teflon coatings on cookware a little while later, when I had regained my composure.
